To start off, we thought we would post about plumbing vent flashings that fail and people do not realize and then result in sometimes thousands of dollars of water damage, especially during heavy rains.

Attached are photos of such flashings that have failed. They are cheap, inexpensive and usually rubber sleeves that wrap around the PVC pipe that vents the plumbing for your bathroom or kitchen drain pipes so they drain faster.

What most people do not know, is that the rubber that wraps around these pipes often fails way before the house roof needs to be replaced (or cheap roofers that should replace these flashings when replacing a roof try to save money and leave the existing ones) and the rubber cracks from sun exposure, leaving a gaping hole in your roof for water to leak into.

The last photo attached is a photo taken online of a new piece of flashing and the cost was $6.12 and the labor is not intensive to replace.
